While all Miniature Australian Shepherds are smaller than the standard Australian Shepherd, Miniature Australian Shepherds can come in three different size categories. There is Miniatures (the largest), Toys (the middle group) and Teacups (the smallest of the small!)
In order to be a Miniature Australian Shepherds, a dog must be under 18in. From there they just get smaller and smaller! The size of the dog doesn't change their functionality or abilities as pets, though it can make a difference in how well they will fit into your home and lifestyle! Please read on for more information on the different sizes!
These three puppies were all born on the same day! However, the size difference between them is very different! They are all from different litters, and will all grow up to be different sizes.
Far Left Puppy - Teacup
Middle Puppy - Toy
Far Right Puppy - Miniature
These puppies were all born from different litters, and they all had different sized parents. The miniature had two miniature parents, the toy had two toy parents, and the teacup had a toy mother and a teacup father. As you can see, it is not hard at all to tell the three different groups apart, even right after birth!
